Comments: Would be knee-deep in Iraq now, I suppose, if it weren't for those damned thermals (broke back on a jump - med. discharged in '99). Wondering if anyone can direct me to a good website (aside from this one - excellent) where I can keep track of what 8th POB is doing directly, and maybe find out if anyone I know is involved? Thank you!

Comments: Great site. I am a former CA soldier. My branch was MI, and my reserve unit was in Kuwait City and Northern Iraq. I'm out of the military now, but our unit just deployed this past weekend for Fort Bragg, on their way to the Middle East. I have a leaflet dropped by the Iraqi's during Desert Storm that I did not see on your site. Let me know if you want a copy of it and I'll get it to you. It shows a muscular Iraqi soldier with knives standing resolutely in front of quivering coalition forces, who were hiding behind a tank with a very limp gun tube. Drop me a note if you haven't seen this one and would like it.

Comments: Good website, sir! I found it informative and easy to interact with. Good setup, as well. Especially useful was the History of PSYOP section. Insightful into doctrine, and used good examples to support it; however, a few more case studies would certainly be helpful. Also, it is very difficult to document your site as a source in formal papers without any sort of information. Perhaps the site can be made more documentation-friendly? Thanks a lot, sir!

Comments: Sir, Having sucessfully finishing a course in PSYOPS Crse. in CMO (PSYOPS) school in FT.Bonofacio Makati Phil.I and majority of my contemporaries are convinced that before bloodshed and waste of materiel asset be conducted to achieve sucess in any war a TACTICAL PSYOPS campaign should first be deployed thus minimizing or totally erradicate death and destruction, because poeple sometimes do things that they will regret later, TACTICAL PSYOPS is a best reminder of what a great novelist WROTE HAVE YOU EVER CONSIDER THE CONSEQUENCES OF YOUR ACTIONS.

Comments: I was at Ft. Bragg NC in 1959 OJT with the lst RB&L Bn. Hq&Hq Co. We wore the Creast shown on your page on hat and both shoulders. I went from there to 107th RB&L Bat. Korea in Jan 1960. The 107th was changed shortly after I arrived to Korea Det. US Army Broadcasting & Visual Act. Pac. We were wearing the shoulder patch of Okinawa, the Torii in gold color on black with gold outer ring. The Korean ov. protested this patch and we had to start wearing the 8th army patch. Our compound also had a Torii as our entrance gate, and this too had to come down. I have been on this website before and other sites trying to find anyone I served with in 1960-1961 but to no avail. Each time I think this might be the time some buddy might see. Korea was an interesting tour, hated every day then, but now, that was the best time of my life.

Comments: Ifeel real ancient after reviewing the other guestbook entries. I was with the 8239th AU in Korea from 1955-6, running a transmitter in the rice paddies and running around with a speed grafic making pix for propaganda mags. I learned skills that I use to this day and grew up real fast. Can anyone put me in touch with a high up in current Psyops? Would much appreciate it. Thanks for this website.

Comments: I was looking at my old beret (four years in TPD 930 A Co. 9th POB (A))and realized I didn't know the significance of the symbolism in the flash or crest. Thanks for putting in the time and effort into disseminating this info on the Web. Just one thing, When I ETSed in 1999, BPSE was changed to Tactical Psyop Detachment (TPD) and the DPSE was changed to Product Development Detachment (PDD or The Pud as we called it). Otherwise, this is the most comprehensive collection of Psyop information on the Internet.

Comments: Hi Steve, Surprised to see you here! Equally surprised to see the amount of interest in PSYOPS. I was beginning to think we were a top secret organization or something. Just so everyone out there knows, Steve Ludwig and I (proudly)served together in Vietnam. HHC 4th PSYOP Grp. 69-70.Became re-acquainted thru POVA's finder section just recently. Speaking of Finder, his picture is on their web site now, check it out, www.psyop.com.You Folks mind if I hang out for awhile?? This appears to be a very informative site.Lots of good input & comments. To answer your question Steve, try www.h.j.saunders. They carry all sorts of emblems, crests, patches, medals, etc. etc. For all branches of service. You will want the JFK Special Warfare patch for the 4th grp. As someone called it earlier, The flameing piss pot. Yes, PSYOPS does make a difference! It did 30 yrs. ago & still does today.Carry on, all you current day Psywarriors, its a proud tradition!!! Comments: Ed, as always a great site to visit again and again. Very informative and professionally run. I am hoping your readers / visitors can help me to catologue Military Forces Psychological Operations unit insignia - and possibly to acquire such insignia. The plethora of Psyop units being created or indeed recognised in today's military forces orbat's is recognition itself to the value of the Psyop function. I am seeking help especially in South America, Asia and Europe. Can you help ? Indeed, any Psyoper who shares my interest in this speciality i.e. in insignia terms - give me a shout. Always willing to share my interest with fellow Psyopers. Looking forward to hearing form you. Drew

As a captain with A Company, 6th Battalion, 4th POG (A), I served in Sarajevo as the officer in charge of TV SFOR and Radio MIR from Jun '97 to Feb '98. I really enjoyed my experience there and the chance to work with my fellow international peacekeepers. I also enjoyed meeting and working with Bosnian citizens from all over the country.

Comments: Your page is great and the first place I have been able to find many of the leaflets we dropped over Somalia. Between Feb and May '93 I was the drop coordinator the the 8th Bn, 4th POG. During this time we mostly did low altitude drops using the New Zealand Air Forces Andover C-121 Aircraft, - they had 3 in Somalia and a total of 4 or 5 in their entire Airforce. We also did helicopter drops over Magadishu. Anyway, I have been trying for some time to get a copy of the 4th POG's Operation Restore Hope psyops video and wondered if you may have any ideas on locating one. All the best, Trevor Olson.

In Zetra Stadium in the basement. When we came back there was no medals like the guys who came back the on the first rotation.Looking foward to doing again.I'm been in going on 26years and still enjoying it.

Comments: I was the first Psyop soldier on the ground in Saudi Arabia, as I was on TDY there from Feb - Aug 90 supporting OPMSANG (Saudi Arabian National Guard) modernization program. I was stationed in Khobar at the airbase, supporting the 200 active US military personnel in Saudi prior to the war, as the NCOIC, Security Administration, for the US Military Training Mission (USMTM). I was due to rotate back to CONUS a week after the invasion of Kuwait. Needless to say I didn't get to rotate back right away, but I did provide on-the-ground intel to my commander (8th POB) from the outset, until full unit support arrived some weeks later. One thing I didn't notice on your site, related to Psyop during the Gulf War, was a Liaison Officer for 3rd Army; I was the NCO part of a two person Liaison team, attached from 8th POB directly to 3rd Army for the purpose of reporting duties for the general of 3rd Army HQ. I can't remember who that was, unfortunately. Nice site though. Robert H. Patterson SGT, USA (ETS'd in 1991) Arabian Peninsual Team Chief A Co., 8th POB 1988-1991

Comments: My 20 year old son was recently very suddenly deployed to Bosnia (on Sept 9). He returned from his Ait training in May and wasn't planning to be deployed until the Major called him on Sun Aug 28, and told him to be ready to leave as an alternate the following Tuesday. All this was very sudden and since the trouble on Sept.11, we, his parents were very worried. This is how I came upon your website and I must say I WAS COMPLETELY AMAZED at what a marvelous and informitive website you have. It answered so many of our questions and concerns, not to mention being very explanatory about what my son will be doing. Now I know he is a member of TPT and what he will most likely be doing. I cannot compliment you enough. Your website is fantastically done. Thank you so much. Sincerely, Cheryl Rega

Comments: I found the POVA web site and to my amazment!!, at the top of the page was the shoulder and cap pin of the lst Radio Broadcasting & Leaflet Bn. In 1959 I was stationed at Ft. Bragg, N.C. OJT Training with Hq&Hq Co. lst RB&L Bn. And was sent to Seoul, Korea to the 107th RB&L Bn., which was later changed to the Korea Detachment, US Army Broadcasting and Visual Bn. APO 301, I was there from 1960 to 1961. VUNC Radio was also operated out of our compound. Some time later after I left Korea, I understand it was renamed 24th Psyops, and I can not find any history after that. Only made contact with one person that served there when I did, and I have not been able to find any info on net about any of the above units. So it was a joy to see my Ft. Bragg pin, ( I still have one pin left, I donated one to the shipping out station at the Oakland Army Terminal in 1960 to add to their display. Thanks so much for this web site.

Comments: I found this website by accident but so glad that I did as the late Col. Nicki Rowe was a personal friend of mine in both school and scouting. We grew up together and went our separate ways after high school. I made a career in the U S Navy while he chose the Army. His death came as quite a shock when I heard about it back in 1989. Fortunately I have school and scout photos to remember him by. Thanks for putting together such a wonderful website. Respectfully....William Perkins

I have been trying to find buddies from 1st L&L in Korea and 5th L&L in Boeblingen, Germany without much luck. Will check your guestbook and see if any are there. Thanks for this.

I saw several names in your guestbook from both 'the MA' and the KTO. Your page does a great service to remind us not only of what was done in the past, but what most probably will have to be done again in the future. Good Luck & God Bless....

Comments: I was a US Marine Infantryman in Panama. I was stationed at Rodman Naval Station during the events leading up to Just Cause. I spent most of my time at the Arrejian (sic) Tank Farm patroling, and on LP's. The Army Psyops units were out with us every night with the Loudspeaker Humvee. You'll have to excuse my lack of knowledge for what you call your equipment. I'll always remember those repetitive broadcast and would love to hear them again. On warm summer nights, when the weather feels like it did in Panama, I can still hear those speakers blasting the message all over the tank farm and jungle. My favorite story was the night I was on an LP in the jungle and I heard them play Pink Floyd Riding the Gravy Train. They only did that once that I can recall. So everytime I hear that song, I remember that warm night on the jungle floor... and smile to myself. You guys did a great job! Semper Fi

Comments: This is a great site for new and old PSYOP soldiers. I was the commander of DET 1, 245 PSYOP CO (ABN){Dallas, Texas} during the Gulf War. Those were great times spent with great guys doing real PSYOP missions for 1st and 2nd MARDIV and 3/5 SFG(A). I noticed one of my Saudi Dogs on the guestbook. All of you guys, to include those using assumed names, drop me an e-mail. For you new PSYOP soldiers, PSYOP is written in all caps and there is no S on the end. Since the Gulf I've served with the 15th PSYOP BN (Fort Thomas, KY), USAJFKSWCS and now USACAPOC, G3 (FT Bragg, NC). One very important event that recently happened was the activation of the PSYOP Regiment, you current PSYOPers need to contact 4th POG through your chains of command to get more info on this.

Comments: Ecellent Site! I served in the 8th Psyop Bn, Ft Bragg from 89-93, and during the Gulf War. (With Major Barns!) Though I must aggree with Sonya & Matthew Willis's post earlier about the Leadership problems, but it is getting better. Now that they are promoting from within, and giviong the experienced soldiers a chance, it is getting much better. Craig Tremblay

Comments: I have thoroughly enjoyed your website and appreciate the hard work put into it. You are to be commended. I am an old Psyop warrior having served with the 6th Psyop Bn in Vietnam from Jun 1968- June 1969. Our unit was the forerunner of the 4th Psycological Operations Group in Vietnam and is now currently at Fort Bragg North Carolina. I have assignments in Psyops at different times. I also have served in the 95th Civil Group at Fort Bragg which later became the 96th Civil Affairs Batallion. I then as a Major served as a detachment commander. It was our Battalion which sent detachments to receive the Vietnamese people who were fortunate to be able to get out of South Vietnam when Saigon fell. Needless to say we had a monumental task of housing feeding and trying to get the people settled into a different lifestyle. My unit was at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas and other units were in Guam and other designated spots. I would not have enough room to fill you in but if I can ever be of assistance to you please don't hestitate to let me know and I will give it my best shot. Again congratulations on your site as it brings back old memories. Keep up the good work. Albert L Jackson LTC USA Retired

Comments: Great Info. I was looking for historical info on the Psy Ops Det with the 3rd SFG(ABN) in 1964 and then later deployed to Vietnam in 1965. If my memory serves me correctly it was the 245th Psy Ops Det and was commanded by CPT Blaine Revis. I was a member of this unit until I rotated back to the States in Aug of 1966. I am also looking for members of the unit during this time period. Some may have rotated back to Bragg and some may have gone to the 5th SFG in Vietnam, some of us were SF qualified. Can any one help? Keep up the good work.

Comments: Fantastic web site!!!!! I served from 1989-94 in the 8th and 9th PSYOP Bn. It's nice to see that all the work done in Somalia has not been forgotten. I worked on Rajo and stayed behind to work on the UN version Maanta. If anyone reads this I'd like you to say a short prayer for some men that I knew who died for Rajo/Maanta. Four Somalis led by a man whom we called the Colonel delivered our newspaper throughout Mogadishu. During one of their delivery runs, they were pulled over by men who opposed our campaign, and shot execution style. They may not have been soldiers, but they believed in our cause.

Comments: Your doing a very nice job. Out of my 28 years in the U.S. Army, active and reserve 21 were assoicated with Psyops. From my tour in Vietnam with the 7th Psyop Bn. including 6 months commanding the 2nd Det. in direct support of the 3rd Marine Division working out of Dong Ha. to my last six years with USSOCOM. I also knew Nick Rowe, he had just taken over the Headquarters Bn. commanders position at USAJFKSWC shortly before I left my Temporary Tour of Active Duty working on the Psychological Operations Specialist Program at JKK. Keep up the good work Jeff
